Whether its motion pictures owned by Hollywood studios or fragrance formulas belonging to fragrance houses in New Jersey, industries with IP exposure are pretty intense about the issue.
So I was interested to see Ernie Rosenberg’s article in the June Perfumer & Flavorist, “Fragrances and Fragranced Products: A Strong Alliance.” Ernie is the President and CEO of the American Cleaning Institute (ACI), the somewhat new name of the soap and detergent manufacturers association. Ernie is standing up for the fragrance suppliers who I know are grateful for his support.
I wrote an article that was consistent with Ernie’s key points in the same magazine late last year, “Protecting Intellectual Property in the Age of Transparency” P&F, November 2011.
Ernie describes the importance of fragrances to the $30 billion market for cleaning products in the U.S.and says ACI is committed to working with the fragrance supplier industry to defend a sustainable industry’s ability to protect their IP, also known as confidential business information (CBI). CBI for the fragrance industry means fragrance formulas that sometimes contain dozens of ingredients used in very small amounts. As Ernie says, “The powerful appeal of many soaps, detergents and cleaning products to consumers is often directly related to the products’ scents.”
I mainly wanted to link to the article because it gives me a reason to make sure my readers know Ernie Rosenberg. Ernie is a great association executive with an extremely strong technical background. Ernie Rosenberg’s professional experience is grounded in environmental law and he’s been a senior environmental, health and safety manager both in government and the private sector since 1975. Ernie has chaired, co-chaired or founded numerous industry coalitions and association committees and has authored or co-authored many articles for legal, business and technical journals.
In my twelve years working with the fragrance industry, I’ve seen Ernie manage two major headquarters moves and completely rebrand the association. Ernie has been at ACI, formerly the Soap and Detergent Association since 1999. They have a great staff at ACI and Ernie is a powerful coach. Ernie is an association executive that I admire.
